CLASS OF 2026 SUMMER WAITLIST

Senior year is notoriously a whirlwind of milestones and bittersweet moments, and your senior portraits should capture the real YOU—your style, your vibe, your story. Our current senior class should be wrapping things up soon and rising seniors should start the search for the photographer that matches their vision!

This isn’t about the basic, stiff, boring yearbook headshot your school makes you take. Your senior portrait experience should be next-level images you’re obsessed with, that make you feel empowered with confidence! With so many photographers in Orange County and the Inland Empire, how do you find the right one? Here are six must-know tips to help you choose!

1. Find a Photographer with a Style You Love

Every photographer has a unique style—some focus on light, airy images, while others lean toward bold, colorful portraits. Some have very classic work, while others love to get creative. Do you want a natural, sun-kissed look at a Laguna Beach sunset? Or do you prefer an editorial, fashion-inspired vibe near the art district of Newport or Costa Mesa? If you want lots of variety, be sure to look for someone who offers multiple locations and looks to help your images stand out and let you shine your way! Browse photographers’ websites and Instagram feeds to see if their aesthetic matches your vision. Look for consistent quality in their work. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions! I promise they will be excited to chat with you!

2. Look for Experience with Senior Portraits

Not all photographers specialize in senior portraits. A great senior portrait photographer understands how to guide high school seniors naturally, highlight your personality, and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. They offer information to help you prepare for your session and also know how to get a variety of shots that both you AND your parents will love, so everyone is happy! Look for someone with a strong portfolio featuring a solid variety of senior sessions and themes.

3. Find a Photographer Who Offers Professional Hair & Makeup

Ever tried to make your eyeliner match, only to end up with a full smoky eye when that wasn’t the plan? Yeah, let’s avoid that stress on your senior portrait day. A photographer who offers professional hair and makeup as an option takes the pressure off—you get flawless application and touchups throughout your session, so your look stays fresh for every outfit. The best part? It’s still your style, whether you want soft glam, beachy waves, or something totally bold. Your senior portraits should feel effortless, and having a pro on set makes all the difference.

4. Choose Someone Who Offers Personal Styling and True Collaboration

Your senior session should be a full-on experience, not just an awkward first-time meet-up in a random location. The right photographer will help guide you through outfit selection (yes, multiple outfits!), offer personal styling advice and session prep info to make sure your looks are on point, and even help with organic, movement-based posing that feels natural, not stiff. This way you feel more confident, prepared, and excited, instead of a bundle of nerves.

Think of it as a creative partnership—you bring your personality and style, and the photographer brings their artistic eye and expertise. Together, you’ll create something that’s not only amazing, but authentically YOU!

5. Consider the Artistry and the Vibe

A senior portrait isn’t just a snapshot—it’s a collection of art that tells YOUR story. Look for a photographer who uses artistic ideas, aesthetics and processing to match your personal style and themes. Whether you want a retro film look, soft and dreamy, cinematic, bold and editorial, or a mix of everything, your images should stand out and be unique to you. Modern senior portraits are nothing like our mom's were! They can truly be an authentic expression of self - as they should be!

6. Ask About High-End Heirloom Products

Let’s be real—your senior portraits deserve to live beyond social media platforms. A top-tier photographer will offer high-end heirloom products like stunning albums, gallery-quality wall art, and beautifully printed keepsakes. These aren’t just pictures; they’re lifelong memories, meant to be cherished forever. Years from now, you’ll be flipping through your album, showing your future kids how much of a total icon you were in high school. Trust me, digital files are great, but holding a tangible, beautifully crafted archival quality album? That’s next-level. Look for a photographer that offers both!
